Missa Luba (1967)
Delightful little album of the late Sixties which shows how, at least for one group of singers in the Congo, the ceremony of the Catholic Mass had fused with native songs.
So, while the arrangements feel, as the liner notes put it, “pure Congolese”, snatches of the Mass (see some of the Latin titles) can be detected. As interpretations of the Mass go, it’s really up there with Fauré’s Requiem.

Great, great post! Thank you.
Know this in two other incarnations (Kenyan choir and Jose Carreras), but never heard this one. Apprently it's the original, too. Cool!
But, uh, what happened to the Gloria and Credo? (9 and 10?)
Glad you like it! Tracks 9 and 10... I can't have been too impressed with those - maybe they were a bit sameish after 8 tracks...
I can be a selective bugger sometimes!
I might still have them somewhere to upload in the future.
Thanks
Tardy
Yes, a beautiful rendition, now that I've lsitened to it. Be nice to have the full set, but no great loss without, seeing as there are other versions to cover the missing bits :)
